something else to complain about

posted by tom / May 09, 2006 /

Alright, here's another stab at a legitimate complaint about OS X: my copy can no longer play Flash movies. Every time Flash launches on a webpage it apparently tries to connect to my Bluetooth headset (which is nowhere nearby and hasn't been used in months). I then get a "Bluetooth Audio Failed" message and playback stops — and can't be started! Argh. This despite my decidedly non-headset-oriented settings in Preferences and Flash's settings.

This guy seems to be the only other person on the internet having this problem, and he hasn't got a solution. It's pretty goddamn irritating — I'm missing out on YouTube-based hilarity on a daily basis.

I can't play flash anymore either!!!!!!!!! It's only happened in the last 24 hours or so. I tried to run the update and it made everything crash.

Sorry for all those exclamation points, I'm still coming down from Veronica Mars.

Me too. No answers, but I share your pain.

Well, I managed to get rid of the "Bluetooth Audio failed" by removing the headset from the BT Preferences panel. But now I don't get any sound out of Flash at all.

The fixes listed for this generally seem to revolve around opening GarageBand, playing some sound, and then closing it. But I'm not having any luck with that (or with rebooting). Flash doesn't seem to have a setting that lets you chose an audio device.

The suggestion to use GarageBand worked for me on a MacBook Pro.

Wow, I though I was the only one in the world with this problem. I called apple and they had no idea what was going on, they couldn't help me!! Apple has ALWAYS been able to help me! So, I guess i'll try opening garage band, playing a few files, and see if that works.

Has anybody found a permenant fix?

The garage band thing worked for me.

I'm having a similar problem, but in the search for answers to my questions I read somewhere that removing the flash-preferences would do the trick.

Good luck!

P.S My problem is i get the "Bluetooth audio failed" message when I'm trying to use my bluetooth headset instead of the internal speakers and with skype. Anyone else with this?
