UPDATE II: if this show does not get renewed, i will kill every single one of you fuckers who has not been watching it.

SPOILERS BELOW!

though this episode was indeed HIGHLY FUCKING AMAZING, i do feel the tiniest bit left down.

1) i had guessed, as many of you had, that it was beaver. i also realized this morning that he probably also raped veronica last year. so, you know, the surprise element was a bit gone.

2) i don't feel beaver really had sufficient motivation to kill the whole bus full of kids. peter and marcos, maaaabye, but all the rest? and am i wrong, or was it dick who suggested the rich kids get off the bus? what if they hadn't? would beaver have gotten off and done it anyways? the rat was never clearly addressed, but i guess we're supposed to assume beaver put it on to get the rich kids suggest another mode of transportation. but i still don't truly believe he was fucked up enough to kill all those kids. i also don't believe that he would have written "veronica mars" on curly's hand. not really believable or necessary.

to revisit the motivatoin: yglesias (yes, he's a fan too; why aren'nt you watching?!) just pointed out that it's a real big deal to kill a bus full of kids just to...stop the fact that you were sexually abused from being made public. why not just kill woody? jeez.

2b. - what about cervando and dick's bleach gun? what about woody's settlement with the poor white trash girl? what about amber? what about sally? these loose ends aren't that important, but they still nag.

3) it was really all too easy for veronica to solve. it all came together in about two minutes in the blue flashback. i would have liked it to be a little more drawnout. kristen bell did an excellent job in that scene, though, when she believed keith had been killed.

4) wtf, did i hear veronica guess at one piont that curly was beaver's dad? excuse me? UPDATE: nevermind - amanda pointed out veronica said actually, "your dad's mechanic," not "your dad's a mechanic."

the good, the awesome, and the excellent:
wonderful dream sequences with lily and could-have-been-senior-year
dick, all the time: "they're probably making looove. or playing d&d. or both. at the same time. they're like cross12th-level dorks."
aaron
aaron having sex with kendall...wonderful in a totally disgusting way
aaron getting his head blown off by clarence weidman...and duncan having made the calll. duncan, you totally, totally redeemed yourself.
the tie-up with the jackie line...glad she won't be back, but glad they made it a realistic scenario. also, it was a nice touch with her waitressing skills at the hut. didn't really believe that veronica always had that all figured out, though.
and, of course, the squee-o-meter with logan and veronica getting back together. SQUEE. god, when did i turn 16.

the even better: if this show gets renewed for next season, check out the cast we'll have: the regulars, plus mac, plus MAC, plus KENDALL. charisma carpenter seriously did such an excellent job this season.

sigh. i am empty on the inside now this show is over for the season. september, where are you?

UPDATE NO. WHATEVER: i think the show is coming back! I THINK THE SHOW IS COMING BACK. i just noticed that when duncan answers the phone from clarence weidman, he says, "CW?" and then clarence weidman (CW, also the new network the show would be on next year), says, "it's a done deal." of course that was about aaron's death but i think it's also about the show! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. it's a done deal!

Reaction to point 2: The bit at the end where Kendall's lawyer (?) points out that betting against incorporation made them 8 million bucks tends to indicate that Beaver's motivation for the bus crash, and pinning it on Woody (writing VM on Curly's hand, redirecting the investigation, planting bomb materials in the garage that Woody owned, etc.), was actually more greedy than plain old nefarious.

Oh my sweet lord, that was amazing.

I agree that Beaver's motivation seems a little weak, but -- wow. I actually believed Keith was dead.

Since I also am this big a dork, I should point out that Dick's line was, I'm pretty sure, actually "They're 12th-level dorks."

Clarence Wiedman is one bad mofo.

great finale, but did the murder of felix, or the whole fitzpatricks storyline for that matter, have anything to do with the bus? i think veronica said something to beaver about it but can't remember what, was is that he used the PCHer-fitzpatrick thing to get curly killed?

Posted by: ken on May 10, 2006 01:40 AM

I was so suckered by Keith being dead. I was a little annoyed, but all the Logan/Veronica kissing MORE than made up for it.

Oh, SQUEE, indeed, Catherine.

Damn, that's a good show.

PS you are brilliant CW = it's a done deal. Awesome to the 12th level.

Posted by: Kathryn on May 10, 2006 09:25 AM

hey ken - i was unclear on that too. all i caught is that beaver was the one who called the PCHers from logan's "life is short" party to tip them off that curly crashed the bus. i'm not sure how the fitzpatricks played into that...

Posted by: catherine on May 10, 2006 09:55 AM

What I'm thinking...

In interviews, Rob Thomas has said he's been setting up the next season's mystery all along, and it would be apparent at the end of this season.

Think about the loose ends, namely the Fitzpatricks and Weevil's arrest. Then Kendall shows up with that suitcase full of who-knows-what (maybe Marcellus Wallace's soul). I think all that goes into next season's mystery.

There better effing be a next season.

that's a brilliant theory about CW and "done deal." i would probably cry if this show isn't back in the fall. the way this last episode set up the next season really, really, really makes me want more episodes like right now. and this show turns me into a 16-year-old too, but like a totally stereotypical 16-year-old and not the way i actually was at 16. okay, i'm going to go squeal on the inside now, bye!

I don't think the real estate plan came to Cassidy until after the bus crash. It seems to me he fully intended to go live in France with his mom after getting revenge on his dad, and it wasn't until that fell through that he started his financial empire.

It is possible that I missed it, but should we assume/think that Lamb is dead? He told Keith to get off the plane, do we assume that he got on it himself? I don't remember him after the explosion.

Posted by: Charles on May 11, 2006 02:30 PM

nope - he merely told keith that he didn't want woody getting off the plane with keith and the media capturing that (another ego thing; he just doesn't want keith to get credit). i believe lamb conveyed this over a phone call. he wouldn't have time to get out to reno that same night that all the stuff went down. i assume on the plane was just woody, the pilot and maybe a couple of folks from the local sheriff's office in nevada.

I must admit, for most of this season I was confused as f**k. I gotta stop getting high before I watch TV at night.

Still, great, great show, and great episode. I can't believe how much they wrapped up in one hour. (You may remember that they tried to do WAY too much in last season's finale, which was nonetheless awesome.)

I still don't understand the real estate stuff at all. And I've never been clear on Kendall's motivations. And I hated Jackie -- good riddance. And yeah, if you're worried about it coming out that you were molested, why not just kill the molester? And how effing CREEPY was Gutenburg? And how sweet was it when all the students cheered for Veronica? And what's up with "amber is a slut" written on Beaver's car?

Blah blah. I can't wait for September.

this is my take on the real estate stuff: beaver crashed the bus for the sole reason of shutting up peter and marcos. he only decided to do the real estate stuff after his father took off and it was clear his mother would not be taking him in. he needed money. he knew the mayor was pushing incorporation really hard. he knew (cause he's smart at real estate/stocks as we saw in the future business leaders of america) that incorporation pushes down the value of the land outside of the to-be incorporated area. he knew he had something on the mayor. so he (along with lucky's help i suppose) started blackmailing the mayor with those audio clips and videos to stop incorporation. the mayor set up the hooker scenario to make sure the scandal would cause incorporation to fail. all the real estate that beaver bought real cheap because of the seemingly-sure incorporation rocketed back up, and he made millions. well, kendall did.

i think kendall's just a con lady who likes money. i hope we get more of her and the fitzgeralds next (god willing!) season.

Sorry I'm a little late to this, but I live in a market that doesn't get UPN, so I didn't get to see the episode until last night (thanks to a local network the shows some of the UPN on Saturday nights.) But killing Woody wouldn't have accomplished much in keeping Beaver's molestation a secret. Remember the "outings of all outings"? I agree with Catherine. He had to shut up Peter and Marcos, and killing them seperately would have been more suspicious than killing the whole busload and framing Curly (or whomever else) for it. And he must have been working with Lucky...it was Beaver's computer's microphone that pick up the conversation about outing Woody. Only he could have edited his own voice out of the conversation before emailing it to Woody. In fact, he was probably not so much "working with Lucky" as using (and probably paying) an unstable victim like himself to kill Woody. The video Lucky took in Woody's house was filmed several months earlier. Maybe his original plan was to kill Woody before the others had a chance to go public, but Lucky was more intent on playing with his subject before killing him. And Beaver (sorry...Cassidy) couldn't chance that the "outing" would occur before Woody's demise.

Oh, when will season 2 be out so I can watch it all with knowledge of the end?

Here's hoping for the CW to keep it on the lineup, and for my WB network to become a CW one!
