second to last episode

meh.

i have to say, after the spectacular episode that we got last week, i was deeply disappointed by the goings-on in this one. where do i start?

  • as expected aaron got off on all charges. but EVERY SINGLE LEGAL scene in this episode was beyond unrealistic. that may be the norm for some tv shows, but i expect more of the VM folks. there was bullshit testimony, there was innuendo and totally inadmissible irrelevant stuff from the defense lawyer (bringing up that veronica had had an STD?!?!?!?! MY GOD) , and there was no explanation whatsoever about why veronica and keith didn't absolutely murder logan for having destroyed those tapes. i bet logan is feeling like a serious dumbass now. also - why were no copies ever made?! ever?! gah, people. gah.

  • it would seem that the jackie line is tied up. phew! in that vein, the school shooting scene was actually done pretty well, i thought. suspenseful. (for those who don't watch, no one died at lucky's hand. he had fake bullets. but he was shot and killed by a security guard.) the terrance line is tied up, too. i don't think he did anything bad, except all the betting and throwing of games. he will be in the service of that casino goon for most of the rest of his life, and that's that.

  • the weevil stuff, with the children recognizing him as the man who captured thumper the night he went missing, is absolutely unbelievable bullshit. first off: that night, it was dark, the kids were in a van (what the hell were they doing there anyway? what type of mother leaves her children in a van at night?). then, at least several weeks later, they could remember the faces of both weevil and thumper accurately? these kids were no older than 10 or 11. it is bullshit. it felt like the writers wanted to give weevil some type of cliffhanger and this was what they came up with. terrible.

  • i hate to say it because i thought the idea was so ridiculous last week...but i think some of the lamb theories may have a bit of credence. lamb is incompetent, but is he really incompetent to the point of stonewalling as hard as he did on the bus crash all season? why was he so intent on terrance as a suspect? why did he look so freaked out when those casino goons came in to vouch for terrance, thereby eliminating any chance he could be a suspect? there were a couple of other moments throughout the episode where i thought his behavior was odd as well. and let's not forget that he crashed logan's party early on the season - the party where calls were made to the pchers about curly (i believe. i get that muddled.) it could be that he was a victim of woody once upon a time and intended the bomb for him - except it went wrong and ended up crashing the bus. that's a possibility as to why he's stonewalled so hard as to really trying to solve the investigation and came up with unlikely scenarios - the driver was committing suicide, terrance did it, etc.

  • please don't let it be beaver! puhlease.

  • and the unresolved questions! oi! i gotta say, if the writers can wrap up all of the following in next week's episode, i will be mightily impressed:

-why the fuck did someone key amber on beaver's car, and who is that creepy hart kid?
-for that matter, we still haven't found out who "sally" is.
-what's up with the mannings? is grace still trapped in a closet? why did lamb show some deceny when it came to that abused daughter? MAYBE CAUSE HE WAS ABUSED AS A CHILD? anyone else remember "that's what my father said"? maybe he wasn't abused by woody, he had just found out about it somehow? and felt compelled to take revenge?
-where are kendall and the fitzpatricks?
-why was that third voice erased from the audio recording of the two boys?
-was the third voice beaver? if so, why would his voice have been erased?
-wtf was up with the hooker in woody's hotel room?

much props to amanda for our immediate post-episode chat for bringing up many of the points above and letting me bounce crazy theory shit off of her.

ohhhhhhh - about the hart kid: i believe he was the one who happened to be filming on the riverbank at the moment lynn echolls leapt to her death off the bridge. that was why he did the "lips locked" motion to veronica - she and weevil threatened him to keep it all a secret. the only reason i can think of them bringing this kid back now is if logan's mom is still alive. let's have her shoot aaron! cause somebody's gotta!

additionally - i don't believe lucky was the one to have placed the bomb under woody's car.

Two thoughts that occured to me this morning:

    1) More annoyances about Haaron's trial. They've had a freakin year to build it up. Don't you think that's enough time to have gathered a backlog of evidence and witnesses against his character? Like, say, his wife who commiteid suicide? Trina's boyfriend that he mauled? Logan's testimony to years of abuse? All those women Keith discovered he'd slept with last year? Bullshit.

    2) Weevil. First of all, I'm surprised that in Neptune, a missing PCHer would make any front pages. Second, if those kids saw Weevil, don't you think they'd also have seen him take the money, leave, and see the Fitzpatrick's come out to get Thumper?

    3) Excellent recall on that Hart kid! It's very un-Veronica not to remember someone that she's been sleuthily involved with, but I think you could definitely be right about Mrs. Echols being alive!

totally off topic but are you still watching Lost? I think (maybe) there is a new episode tonight. I am not really all that excited. Its getting to the point where I just don't care anymore.

i started watching lost again when veronica mars switched to tuesdays, but i think i've only seen one new episode in the past few weeks cause they've had lots of reruns (what's up with that, by the way). but no, i really don't care anymore. this season has long been sucktastic.

Yeah, I'm a moron -- I clearly left three thoughts above, not two.

Oh holy crap, y'all. If you were ever in doubt that TWoP was reading your recaps, check out the first lines of their recaplet:

"Haaron's on trial, and Veronica and Logan get to testify, but Veronica's the only one called a lying, clap-ridden whore by Haaron's toad of an attorney. Yeah, I know chlamydia isn't the clap, but come on -- it should be."
