powerpointable
for those of you who have been reading for a while, you may recall my invective against the evils of powerpoint. it's something i still sort of vaguely stand by, but mostly because i really suck at powerpoint, not because of any particular reason. however, in our media management class, we've been forced to create powerpoint presentations no less than four or five times already, and the application will be a major part of our final presentation to the star tribune. so, you know, you suck it up.
i've also already become a more skilled powerpointer in part thanks to my friend andrew, whose partner cliff is a powerpoint guru. he literally wrote the book on powerpoint. apparently, since this quarter started, cliff was getting a bit miffed at andrew all of the sudden asking millions of powerpoint questions when he had never showed a real interest in his work before. so andrew did what any loving boyfriend would do: he called up all his media contacts on a friday afternoon, and voila: yesterday, the la times wrote a major business section article on cliff and his skills (which have of late been shown off in the vioxx trial). pretty sweet, no? it's actually a pretty interesting read, no matter what you think of powerpoint. the article was also the most emailed one on the site yesterday, and get this as an additional bonus: cliff's book shot up to #4 on amazon. not too shabby!

Regarding your distaste for PowerPoint, I blame our major. While friends of mine in pretty much every other study used the dern thing all the time, I didn't either observe or create a single PPT presentation in college. Then the work world was all bonkers for it. Same for Excel. I'm adapting, slowly but surely, but I'm still a little bit resistant.
Powerpoint is interesting...but where's your vmars post that I have come to depend upon??
i didn't think i had enough interesting theories to post on it this time...but i'll try to think on it today and post something later. but in the meantime, you're welcome to post any comments on it you might have here!
i'll add one thought: how CUTE are veronica and logan in that prom preview? i do believe that they'll start the process of getting back together, but something discovered in the season finale will prevent it.
one other thought: what if JACKIE did it? i have no reason to support this, other than at first she was hate-able, then the writers have recently made her really sympathetic, and it would really fuck with us (and wallace) to make her super evil again.
I'm torn: I think Powerpoint is next-to-useless (or should be), but I've got some mad PP skillz, developed in high school because they made us do Powerpoints for everything.
[Vmars] Here's my biggest problem with Woody having caused the crash: it seems too much like last year. The middle-aged white guy who is somewhat famous is the one who did it. Which leaves the kids. So...Jackie: too new. Dick: a real possibility, I think. Beaver: a dark horse, but v. possible, especially with these new being-messed-up revelations. Logan: also a chance but it's hard to imagine the show going there. Weevil: noooooo. Wallace: never. Duncan: too boring. Veronica: nuh-uh...unless it was somehow by "accident".
Here's another observation: The show seems to have been pushing us towards the idea that the bus was crashed in order to kill a particular person on it, but that's just ridiculous. If you're going to kill someone, there are FAR more efficient ways. So maybe we should be looking for reasons that someone would have wanted ALL of those people killed (like the converse of Murder on the Orient Express)...or ways that the bus crash itself could have been useful for someone (as a distraction? as a political maneouver?).
who did you friend know to call in this story? or did he just pitch it to the right person?
he lived in LA for years, so he has lots of contacts round there...i believe he knew someone either on the metro or business staff at the paper.
emily: i totally agree with you about woody. i think there will be some major revelation about woody concerning either his sexuality or love of little boys, but i don't think he crashed the bus. frankly, i now suspect everyone on the show except woody, wallace, veronica and logan. oh, and weevil. jackie and gia are my off the radar picks mostly for randomness, but i agree with you that i wouldn't be surprised to see it be dick, beaver or a combination of both. a lot for character development reasons, too - what the hell would they do with them next season?
i think your point about trying to connect the bus crash victims in some way is a good one...but i can't think of any reason off the top of my head. uh, because they were journalism students? they were going to write some scandalous article? they had all been molested or had friends molested by the woodman? unlikely. no idea, really.
ARGH! i want to know, now! i can't wait for the reveal; i really think it will be beautifully done.
and keith! i don't suspect keith!
