30 boxes

looking for a new, fun, web-based calendar? give 30 boxes a try. it's more interesting than other web-based calendar apps out there in my opinion because of the social networking feature in which you can keep track of your buddies' schedules and vice versa. you can read a review of it here. let me know if you join so i can add you as a buddy!

UPDATE: actually, the more i browse this program the more i realize i probably won't use it that much unless it really gets a lot of other users that are my friends. the ajax stuff is neat but unless the social networking stuff (and yes i realize what a retarded buzzword that is) really pans out, it's not really better than any other calendar app out there...anyway, we'll see!

Right. The whole notion of sharing a calendar is not new. In terms of the whole social networking end, users already do something similar in posting which shows they're going to, mentioning where they are in the IM Away or Sig file, tracking people via Dodgeball. What 30 Boxes misses in the SN space, is the real use for calendar is mapping out events for weeks on out. In SN, people makes plans that night out, or the earliest one day out. Doing that in a whole calendar space is overkill, when a simple SMS blast would suffice.

Their big bang for the buck is rostering: you, the casual friend can know that I'm tentatively thinking of heading out for drinks on wednesday, but not know of my doctor's appt on tuesday morning. But even then, it's catering to a select, small group, who have the need to roster in more than one level & need to map out their events for they & their friends/network for more than one week.
