breaking news that will shock everyone
from my grandparents, both long-time wyomingians:
no theaters outside of one in jackson hole are playing "brokeback mountain"!!!1!1
despite the fact that it takes place in wyoming and is written by a woman who has long called wyoming home and though there really are gay cowboys in wyoming.
i can't imagine why not! (though admittedly may have something to do with the fact that there are about six theaters in wyoming total) .i love wyoming and everything, and have spent a substantial amount of my summers there, but...besides its astounding natural beauty, it's teh suxors. though that whole astounding natural beauty thing does make up for a lot.
UPDATE: and buffalo! can't forget the buffalo! one summer, my grandparents took us to their friends' buffalo ranch (they provided the majority of buffalo used in filming "dances with wolves"), highlights of which included a trip in the bed of a freewheeling, rickety old truck as we tentatively held out stalks of leafy material to feed to the terrifying, ravenous, no-doubt-flesh-eating-if-they-could buffalo.
also, rodeos. and horse-back riding. okay, wyoming has a few things to recommend itself.

Don't forget the fact that buffalos are delicious.
I spent a lot of my summers out in Wyoming as a kid too. I love it out there! Well, for 2 to 3 weeks at a time at least, I doubt that I would want to live out there. Great for backpacking, horseback riding and relaxing for a few weeks in the mountains. I haven't been out to my family's cabin in a few years, I may have to spend some time in Wyoming this summer.
where's your family's cabin? my grandparents live in laramie, and my grandmother's family has a small cabin and some land an hour or so outside of the city. we used to fish there all the time.
Our cabin is in the Bighorns outside of Buffalo, in Johnson County. I used to have relatives out there too, but that was an older generation that's passed on now. Members of my family had lived out in the Johnson County area from around the 1880s or so until about 10 years ago. I've got some photos from Wyoming (mainly in and around the cabin) in my Flickr account:
