nip/tuck

you know what? i have to give nip/tuck a hand. it has somehow done the impossible: made me obsessed with its plotline even though i have never actually seen a single episode of the show. the buzz surrounding this season's events was unavoidable, and when i hung out with my little brother over thanksgiving, he gave me the run down on all the happenings so that i now somehow now most of the characters, their dalliances, the deal with the carver, etc. the runup to last night's season finale had me all atwitter: what would happen to kimber? could the carver really be quentin, as obvious a choice as that was? WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME THAT I WAS SCOURING THE NET FOR INFO EVEN THOUGH I'VE SEEN MORE EPISODES OF SANDRA LEE'S SEMI-HOMEMADE THAN NIP/TUCK and sandra lee makes me want to kill myself? where are my priorities? and is julian mcmahon scorching hot or what?

anyhoo, i've been thinking about asking for the first couple of seasons worth of dvds for christmas. will i love it? will i hate it? will i lock myself in my apartment for two weeks watching it, eating nothing besides kraft singles and oatmeal because that's all i've got in my kitchen back in chicago? inquiring minds (aka mine) want to know.

haha, i was in the same boat last night. I watched maybe one episode of the first season and then jason got me hooked on about two episodes this season. last night's show was just enough to reel me in to watch the dvds.

Do it! Last night's show was a real disappointment by the standards of the overall series. If you thought that was good, you'd LOVE the first two seasons. This season, it seemed like they wasted a lot of opportunities and couldn't see where the real drama was. Like the show before last, they messed around with how this stupid Santa Claus character couldn't get over his wife cheating on him...when his wife's adultery was exposed by the surgeons discovering a mummified fetus when performing an operation. A mummified fetus! What more do you need people?! That's where the story is, not some two-timing Mrs. Claus.

The best thing they did this season was the white supremacist girlfriend. That was a great storyline. I think the slight decline the last few episodes has a lot to do with the original writer going off to adapt Running With Scissors, so most of this season was written by a different team of people. The stuff by the original writer rocked and is definitely worth catching on DVD (and, heck, even this season was still better than half the stuff on television).

I'm beginning to like the FX shows (Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, and The Shield) better than the ones on HBO. They’re doing some great stuff on that channel.

Nip/Tuck is definitely worth watching. I echo the comments on this season's relative decline, but even at a lower level, it beats out just about anything else on tv right now. The first two seasons were incredible. You should definitely give it a whirl, although I reccomend the closing of eyes during surgery scenes. I'm not very squeemish, but they freak me out every time.

Maybe if I believed that Sandra Lee actually ate the food she made, I'd like her more...
