dell

i know a lot was made of jeff jarvis' dell hell saga, but i just wanted to note: i had a completely fine and pleasant experience with the dell customer service when my laptop monitor went all dead baby on me. yes, it sucked, having my monitor break about six months after i bought it, but everyone i spoke to on the phone was very friendly and helpful, and i though i did have to send my laptop in, it was picked up immediately and returned to me in 3-5 business days, just like they told me it would be. shrug. maybe it's cause i used my flirty-confused-girl voice on the phone when speaking with all the reps. it usually works wonders.

ah, flirty-confused-girl voice. Sadly, it's not an option for me. But I am a big fan of i'm-deeply-troubled-by-the-fact-that-i'm-about-to-ask-for-your-supervisor voice.

Dell customer service has been really good to me also, and their computers have always worked fine. I'm sure that every customer service group has dropped the ball a few times but right now I am pissed at Lenovo, which is the company that bought IBM's hardware sales department.
I ordered my Thinkpad on Dec. 13 and they said it would be delivered in 2-4 weeks. Dell also makes this claim but delivers in less than one week, so I was pretty upset when, to my increasing horror, it looked like Lenovo was going to use the full month. But then on the second to last day of waiting they updated the shipping status to "Please call a representative." I had to actually call them up and navigate gamely thruogh their maze-like telephone system to find out that my laptop was no longer being made and that I could wait an additional 2 weeks for the replacement, which was slightly better than what I asked for and approximately the same price after a discount for my understanding. I don't even know if I could have gotten more out of them, I just desperately want to play video games at work again.
