the line between bad taste and mental illness

I don't know where to begin. I mean, sure, tastes differ, but this is something else. Suddenly I'm wondering if I'm all turned around on this Iraq War thing.

What's so disturbing about the song is that it the vocal melody evokes a nursery rhyme or something that kids would sing while jumping rope. Am i the only one that thinks she sounds like a seven-year-old girl? it makes me shudder.
sq, that is an excellent point about the song that bothers me that i had never been able to put my finger on. creepy.
That song is awful in every way. It sets music, gender politics, lyrical sophistication, and rational thought back twenty years.
Yglesias is, in a word, wrong.
I feel very strongly that this song is a contender for Worst I've Ever Heard. Seriously. I'm getting all worked up at the thought of an intelligent person saying otherwise.
We shouldn't be so critical of the BEP's "My Humps". If Fergie wants to talk about her "lady lumps", she should. Back in high school, I remember my friend Todd telling me his favorite song was "Rape Me" by Nirvana. And I know you've all heard NIN (Nine Inch Nails) say the lines "I want to f-ck you like an animal..."
Sure, some things depend on taste. I think we can all agree bands like Insane Clown Posse are vial and disgusting (I own one of their 2-disc sets for some odd reason). Bands like the Bloodhound Gang also come to mind. Have you ever heard their song "A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When the Stripper is Crying" on their Hooray for Boobies album? And don't even get me started on the misogyny in rap by the likes of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and the rest of NWA.
personally, I'm not offended at all by the lyrical content. It's pretty stupid, but not really offensive (so far as I've bothered to listen, anyway). My complaint is solely musical.
