lucky strike
[D.C.]
posted by tom / December 01, 2005 / Last night Charles and I joined Martin and Hemal for Lucky Strike Lanes' preview night. I've got a review of the place over at DCist. I'll tell ya, nothing makes you feel like you've really made it more than being given free beer and bowling (even if we were just Hemal's +1's). I took a bunch of pictures.
Considering that it's a bowling alley, the place is fairly ridiculous. For one thing, it's got a dress code. For another, this enormous monstrosity is what you get when you ask for a glass of water.
But hey: it's bowling, it's within five blocks, and it's less overpriced than I expected. Call it a win.

Wow, that dress code sucks. No sports jerseys? No skullcaps? Why don't they just sack up and post the whites-only sign?
My favorite is the "Excessively Long" distinction. I'm dreaming of the cardboard roller coaster midget that one has to measure up against in order to be told whether or not their sweater is excessively long. I'd pay for 2 bottles of water if I could witness that confrontation.
Just so we're clear: we're absolutely going to this place when I get back to DC.
noted.
In other neighborhood notes, word is that Cue on U is open. Let me know if you're interested in separating yourself from your money any time soon.
Cue on U? I hadn't heard of this. Where is it? Besides U St., I mean.
Cue is at the old Between Friends spot at 12th and U. Jeremy said that he thinks it's actually a billiards joint, as opposed to a pool bar, but I suppose I can get used to longer tables.
Real billiards? That's more than just a longer table, my friend. There are no pockets, for one thing.
So I hear. Very nutty.
Ya got one, two, three, four, five, six pockets in a table.
Pockets that mark the diff'rence
Between a gentlemen and a bum,
With a capital "B,"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!
Classy.
It'd be interesting for two guys, one white and one black, to attend at separate times wearing the same athletic wear or oversized t-shirt to see how they'd be treated.
Scott, that strikes me as a very good idea.
is this bowling alley sponsored by the cigarette company?
