What did Cherkis do to you? Did he right a slef-serving contrarian piece about you in the City Paper? Or was it non-journalism related, like he prank called you, or left flaming poo on your door.
ghost, please tell me you are not actually jason cherkis. that would be my second blog crush shattering of the day, and i cannot handle it.
but the real answer is he's being astoundingly mean and stupid and intellectually dishonest to a friend on the internets. and i don't take people being mean to a friend on the internets lightly. i am reluctant to link to the stuff in question because he doesn't deserve to have his traffic go up even a notch, but you can check out ILB for more.
stop being a girl - it comes with the territory. once you post something up, it's gonna get knocked down & stomped on. it's fair game for ridicule, no matter how just/unjust it is. it's the same as art, music, a movie, show, clothing, book, etc.
that's true and i'm sure everybody expected that to a certain extent. it's just like, though, why be mean and personal about it - and i also just can't stand the fact that jc acts like ILB and any of the participants should live up to some bizarro standard he set up in his head - it's just a list, done for fun. he takes it way too seriously.
Not to mention the fact that those "standards" aren't things he holds his own work up to.
& don't forget that JK sees himself as a rock critic - he already believes he's way beyond any of us, especially those hack bloggers. also, rock critics naturally feel threatened by casual music bloggers extolling their opinions, because the reality is that the music fan values the opinion of the casual blogger more so than the standard rock critic ('what? they listen to him & not me? this is total crap! sufjan is so 04 and gentrified white. there's no teeth! there's no meat! now the new giant drag & mf doom records are what I deem as good'). the reason for that is pretty elementary: rock critics became less about commenting on what is good/what is bad and more about crafting the next 'ode to bangs' piece. music dorks/literay types eat that shit up. the casual music fan does not. hence the latter's preference for the blogger's take.
just my hypothesis.
yeah, i think that is pretty spot on. i just think it's funny when ppl get threatened by bloggers. we are going to EAT YOUR BABIES.
I MISS YOU ALREADY CATHERINE!! Come back and be a badass blogger in Chicago. I'll buy you a panda.
mine own baby panda! how can i pass that up?
Being "astoundingly mean and stupid and intellectually dishonest" is his stock in trade. Not just to Kyle. He can't help himself. If he poured himself a bowl a Froot Loops, he'd find a way to be astoundingly mean and stupid and intellectually dishonest to them, too.
But, what's the bottom line? Can he STOP Kyle? Ha. No. He loses.
