we have a winner
Last night was interesting. We made it to a good party, a great party, and a bar. More on the parties in a sec. First, the costumes. Adams Morgan turned out to have the best ones. We met all of the folks pictured on the street, and all in quick succession.
I hope you'll all agree that this is the year's clear winner.
Although that's not a bad Mugatu/Katinka combo.
Mario seemed surlier than normal.
More photos from Adams Morgan here.
Let's keep working backward: we went to Millie & Al's immediately after Carrie's party (she's GoGo in this picture). I'd never seen her apartment before, but it's pretty beautiful. Unfortunately, the beer had run out immediately before we arrived, and booze supply problems at our previous location meant that we were all stone-cold sober. With last call looming or passed (daylight savings time is confusing), we decided to try our luck at a bar (and apparently succeeded in fitting an entire night's worth of drinking into sixty minutes). So we left very quickly and I didn't take any pictures. There was a lot of overlap from Julian's party, so you've seen most of the costumes anyway.
We had just come from a pretty goddamn interesting party. I should be careful, I guess, because I don't know how much publicity the hosts would be comfortable with. But let me say once and for all: complaints that DC isn't cool are completely unfounded. I felt like I was living in the goddamn CobraSnake. So with that in mind, let me present you with some shitty photos.
The location itself was astounding. It's literally a couple hundred yards from my apartment, but pretty well hidden. An big basement space opens onto a courtyard, which opens onto a skate park.
Well, okay, more like a room set up in a bowl configuration. Still, it was pretty ridiculous. I took some video of a few runs:
You'll need XviD installed to view 'em.
There was live music, too. Didn't catch the opener's name (they were good, though), but the Apes started playing around midnight, which was pretty great. Kriston shot some video of their set. The sound was too loud for my camera's lousy little microphone to handle, but you can sort of get a feeling for the performance. Download it here.
So that's it. I'd try to be witty, but, well... you know. I claim extenuating circumstances.
