I know what it is/does, but the permissions on my work computer won't let me install most unapproved software.
what about bloglines?
I have one, but I have no idea what RSS means. "Read Stuff, Susan"?
I used to use something called feedreader, but it was kind of a pain in the ass. And then I started having to go to lots of client offices, so I switched to bloglines. Saves bandwidth, too.
RSS = "Real Simple Syndication" meaning it's an easy way to syndicate (i.e. allow other "people" the ability to view/deliver) your content across various of delivery playforms.
I use Thunderbird on OSX and it hasn't imploded so far. Why would it?
that's "...various delivery platforms."
i know what it is, but the only third party RSS reader i've used is on my friend seth's site, www.conspyr.com, and there are still some presentation glitches he's working out. mostly, i get to it the ol' fashioned way.
I use NewsGator. It dumps all of your news right into Outlook and you can even use it to post to your blog right from Outlook. One of the best inventions ever. Seriously -- if I had to give up either NewsGator or TiVo, it would be like Sophie's Choice. It's that good.
Bloglines is an RSS reader, just an online one, as opposed to a program you download to your machine.
yeah - that's why i suggested it to RCR. if he can surf the internets at work, he can use bloglines.
john - here's my thunderbird problem.
Ahhhh... I think I remember that happenning more to an older version I first tried them on. Now with the latest (1.02) it's happenned maybe a couple of times to only a few of my entries (CNet News Blog, Wired News) but it's sporadic at best. Out of the 30 or so I track, it's happenned to 4 different ones on a few occasions. I'm willing to live with that.
Once when it seemed to always affect Wired, I deleted the entry, wiped out my trash and then added it again the next day.
The only issue I have now is it tells me that the new ESPN feeds are not compatible. Hmmm...
I use SharpReader, it works pretty well. No noticable bugs, not a huge bandwidth/memory hog, etc.
