bloc party

impressions from the bloc party show last night at the 9:30 club:

-holy shit, their drummer is amazing
-kele okereke is freakin' adorable
-DC crowds can, in fact, show energy

overall, a pretty good way to spend a thursday night, i thought.

DCist, jake, dcaffeinated, and kyle all have reviews and/or pictures.

the girl i sold my tickets to (yes, i know, *gasp*) was the wildest 80s-o-rama dressed ever. that alone made me realize i was passing up a fun show.

I thought they were good too, and you're right, the dummer was amazing. The guys on bass and lead guitars didn't seem committed in terms of energy or performance, though. The bass player's backing vocals seemed especially bored. Also, the band seemed to just be racing through some of the songs, esp. in the second half of their set. But the highlights were pretty high, and I'd love to see them again.

(kyle's right on the money about the mix, though -- I could barely hear the guitars)

I agree with you, tom, about the bassist's vocals--but honestly, it was all about Kele and the drums. What a fun show.

Hot stuff.
