i just wanted to say that this article is completely insufferable. people who think they are superior for vocally hating on a band, a movie, or whatever that has recently become very popular - spare me. coldplay isn't going to save the world with their music, but what's wrong with a band that has a mass appeal?

and not only is the article completely insufferable in its self-appreciation, it's also terrible. his main problem with coldplay? they write trite lyrics, are sometimes hokily mournful, and are often influenced by older bands like U2 and the beatles. well, jeez. none of that shit has ever happened before!

Clearly, Coldplay is beloved: by moony high school girls and their solace-seeking parents, by hip-hop producers who sample its rich instrumental sounds and by emo rockers who admire Chris Martin's heart-on-sleeve lyrics. The band emanates good intentions, from Mr. Martin's political statements to lyrics insisting on its own benevolence. Coldplay is admired by everyone - everyone except me.

well, congratulations buddy. you must be very proud.

I agree with you on the "mass appeal" angle...if the teeneyboppers love a band the only thing that sucks is that you must get your shit together to get tickets but beyond that who really cares.

But, with that being said, I H-A-T-E Chris Martin. He is just another cockney jackass who gets on the issue of the moment and uses it as their microphone for promoting their music, book...whatever. There are alot of idiots out there that just because they can sing/act/write/whatever think they are Henry Kissenger Jr...and watching these idiots "educate" the kids who worship them scares me to no end. Sorry but trade policy taught by Chris Martin is just not a good idea.

He came out a few weeks back bashing "shareholders" as the true evil in society. Yep, they are all evil and they are all one degree seperated from the devil himself. I think it is pretty safe to say that his wife has a nice lil trust frund established with plenty of stocks making sure that Mr. Paltrow will be eating at Koi or "name trendy restaurant here" for the rest of his life (or marriage to Gwenny...whichever lasts longer).

There are bands, like U2, that use their celebrity to draw attention to a cause...that I respect (I know it is a very fine line).
