more lost

it's been a while since i blabbered on about my favorite show this season, "lost." and considering i'm still getting comment threads on the last post about it, i figured it was high time to start a new thread on "what the fuck is going on?" some people may not have seen the latest episode, so i'll put my thoughts behind the cut.

  • first things first: kate is kind of a dumbass criminal. this episode kinda gives us more insight into her past, especially that stupid toy plane. turns out it was buried in a time capsule belongs to her childhood sweetheart, who ends up getting killed in a shootout caused completely by kate and her dumbassery. she totally knew what she was getting into. still not revealed: why kate was on the run in the first place; why her mother is terrified of her; who got a hold of the toy plane after she took off; why the stupid toy plane was in a safe deposit box in a bank in that episode where she robbed it; why the fuck would anyone go to such lengths to get a toy plane even if did belong to your dead true love? but a theory of mine: are we SO SURE HE'S DEAD? he's totally going to be walking around on the island come next episode, a la jack's dad. also - when she and dead lover were listening to the time capsule tape, she was talking about leaving home, and said, "you know why..." which hints at something rather dark and creepy. based on the way her mother reacted to her, it could be a possibility that kate was an abused child and, like, killed her dad? then ran away?
and another tidbit i read on the TWOP forums: the date the time capsule was bured on was august 15, 1989. aka 8-15 (which is the same number as the flight).

  • so, the raft. i read somewhere it really is going to take off and we're going to see a lot of footage of the people on it. and personally, i really think somebody is going to bite it. if it is mike, walt, sawyer, and jin on that thing, my opinion would be that jin is a goner. that way they can open up a romantic connection between michael and sun later on. but anyway: what was up with freakchild walt, after his father says "we don't have to go," creepily and flatly saying, "yes we do"? i guess the raft trip will play some sort of catalyst in the fate of the island. but ain't nobody getting to civilization on that thing. maybe they'll end up back, but like on the other side of the island, with the "others..."

  • speaking of the others, that danielle mentioned in the preview: who are they? and what the fuck is up with walt? if he can touch locke and figure out about the hatch, why can't we just have walt go around touching everybody on the island and figuring shit out for us, because frankly, this whole-STILL-not-really-knowing-anything thing is getting boring.

overall: this was just an okay episode. to tell the truth, i'm kinda sick of kate, and i wish the writers hadn't devoted yet another whole episode to her backstory, especially when it only barely cleared up a tiny tidbit (the toy plane) that didn't even turn out to be that interesting. jack and kate, the main characters on the island - they have gotten fucking boring. just about everybody else is more exciting, and they need to do more backstories on them. but anyway, next week looked pretty awesome - i'm ready for the crazy french lady to come storming on the beach with her arsenal and for the return of the monster.

I think Walt knows everything. Their story is written exactly in that comic book.
