sidekicked

Sigh. The sidekick has died! No, not Charles. My phone. It must have been jealous of my ipod. Alas. I'll do my best to drag the ole Ericsson T39 out of its box in the garage tomorrow and start returning voicemail, but in the meantime you should call Catherine, not me. Not that I'm such a social butterfly -- I rarely use even half of my 200 monthly weekday minutes. But still: if you tried to call me and I didn't respond, it's not because I hate you. Probably.

But now I'm faced with a dilemma: what new toy should replace it? As much as I want to buy a Treo 600 or 650, there doesn't seem to be a way to do so and get grandfathered into my very cheap $40/month plan -- and they're pricey gadgets to begin with. Oh well. The sidekick 2 looks pretty rad, too, so I'll probably pick up one of those in the next day or so. I hope you all like terrible-quality digital photos!

Call me your sidekick again, and you just might end up with an archenemy.

yeah, it was a stretch, but I couldn't think of anyone else who'd even vaguely fit joke (which was too awesomely lame to pass up).

Anyway, I already have an archenemy.

Ooh. I want your T39. Every day I regret smashing mine against the living room wall just a little bit more. That was my favorite phone, EVER. and the last pre-sony Ericsson, if i recall...

yeah, the t39 is a pretty great phone. First one I ever owned, and at this rate it'll be the last. I've had it since 2002 and it's spent the last 18 months unused -- and six of those in a freezing cold garage. Still works perfectly, and the battery was holding 2/3 of a charge.

I know the LiON battery will inevitably die, and that they probably don't make replacements anymore, but hell, even if battery capacity drops to a third of where it started it'll probably still manage a few days. Definitely a great backup GSM phone.

I'm fairly certain I still have at least one battery for it... and possibly a spare, if you want it/them.... I even have that little belt clip screw thingy. All hail the last of the great shark-fin phones!

well, I appreciate the offer, but my understanding is that LiON batteries start dying the moment they roll off the assembly line, and whether they're used or not has little bearing on their lifespan. Dansdata has a pretty good writeup, if you're interested.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with T-Mobile earlier this morning, and an SK2 should be winging its way to me shortly, sending the t39 back to its home in the garage.
