tommy's been using it forever, but i only converted yesterday. and boy, was it worth it. if one could be in love with an internet browser, well, i am, and i want to have 10,000 of firefox's babies. you can download it for yourself here, and read a post article on the benefits of firefox here, along with a post live chat here.

While we're talking open-source, here are some other good OSS programs:
Audacity -- free sound editor
NetTime -- sync your PC's clock with the atomic clock. Win2k/XP have this out of the box, but nettime may be easier for you to set up. Mac version available, too.
FreeCiv -- OSS adaptation of Sid Meier's Civilization 2. Has some nice tweaks and new features (multiplayer gameplay, for instance). Plus, you know, free.
the GIMP, an open source photoshop alternative. Still has a way to go to live up to that title, but it's pretty powerful.
Ethereal a packet sniffer. Spy on your coworkers' email and web usage! Yay!
Finally, NetHack, the ultimate videogame. Can't say I've ever understood the appeal of this one. Don't tell the other nerds.

To add another bit of good free opensource material to the list: FreeMind for doing concept mapping.
And on Firefox you can see Blinking text. It's my favorite browser ever. Although on the older version of Mozilla that i have on my work computer you can just start typing in the address bar and it automatically asks you if you want to google. The newer Firefox doesn't have that, instead it has the separate search input off to the right, I kinda like the older way better.
