You know, not to be a huge whiner, but things like this, this and this push me toward the stereotyping of wingers as classless, abrasive buffoons that I'm already far too ready to make. Grace, guys. C'mon. Just try. Shouldn't you be talking about how great privatized social security is going to be, instead of finding new ways to say "suck it"?

That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women.

This is why I simultaneously hate and am endlessly amused by political discussion on the internet.

I hope that this isn't the end of political posts from you guys now that the presidential election is over. Your posts are interesting and often provoke informative discussion. I especially enjoyed Mark and Justin M. breaking down Roe v. Wade earlier today.

So keep up the good work and stay away from sharp objects for the next couple of days.

Bonus: If you can guess who I voted for, I'll give you one of those shiny new Lewis and Clark nickels that came out two months ago.

Tommy,

For every post-election conservative gloat you can find on the Internet, I bet I can find 5 pre-election Bush sucks sites. Sure, it'd be nice if those particular people you pointed out were gracious winners, but it'd be nice if people on the other side (say, you) didn't act like the world's going to end now that Bush is in charge for 4 more years. You're doing alright after the first 4, after all.

I don't think they're equivalent at all -- fighting the fight, versus getting in shots after you've won. Anyway, it's a pretty pointless thing to argue about.

Do you really think that liberal bloggers would have been much nicer about Bush after they had won, considering how much antipathy they've shown him beforehand?

I think you mischaracterize this as fighting the fight vs. taking shots. If you agree with the person talking, then it's fighting the fight, but if you disagree, it's taking shots. That's not a great distinction. Maybe you're trying to draw a temporal line, but I don't see why an insult is ok pre-election but not post-election.

At any rate, it is a pointless thing to argue about. But you did bring it up.

I am trying to draw a temporal line, fwiw

but of course mostly I'm just bitter

Ok. But just to illustrate my point, there are plenty of sites with very very nasty liberal things to say post-election. Such as punkvoter.com, which had this to say:

"We gave it our best shot. Senator Kerry today said that now we need to come together and heal as a nation. FUCK THAT. There's no fucking way I am going to come together with these homophobic, flag-waving, god-fearing, gun-toting, uneducated, isolationist, ethnocentric REDNECKS. We live in a country that's in a shroud of ignorance. We do not compromise or come together with them. We fight them and everything they stand for. We as a community have to take care of each other and respect each other because apparently our current government has no interest in that. They do not care about gay people, they do not care about sick people, they do not care about black people, they do not care about poor people, they do not care about the rest of the world, they do not care about our environment, and they especially don't care about a woman's right to choose. We may have lost the battle, shit we may have lost the war...but we are not losing our minds. WE ARE RIGHT...THEY ARE WRONG...just because we seem to be the minority doesn't mean we come together with them."

Let's face it. Everyone's a dick.
