marathon update
UPDATE: do not forget that saturday night (well, really sunday morning at 2am) is daylight savings time! we fall back one hour. so don't forget to switch your alarm clock back one hour before you go to bed saturday night.
alrighty. you should know the following things:
my bib # is 20333.
i think the best places where i will know to look for my friends/family are the following:
-as i'm heading north on constitution at mile 11, let's say on the righthand side of constitution, in front of the washington monument (i know i said the museum of natural history before, but i just noticed the course dips down 14th street so that might get confusing.)
-after that viewing point, run across the mall to independence avenue, and place yourself either in front of the smithsonian castle or the smithsonian metro stop. that's mile 14.5 or so.
-then run down 14th street to the beginning of the 14th street bridge. that'll be mile 20. i'll probably be hallucinating by then, so it'll be nice to see some friendly faces.
-after you see me at mile 20, your best bet is to race back up to the smithsonian metro stop, hop on a blue line back to arlington cemetery station, and try to see me at the last mile or so. if you don't catch me then, remember, we're meeting at linkage area 1, letter A post-race.
(print out a map to better see what i'm talking about)
additional tips are here.
also, i've uploaded an image of the map here and marked with smiley faces the three viewing points that i'm talking about. (it's a bit of a large file.)

update: my dad sends me this link to a wapo.com marathon discussion.

I'm thinking about bringing Foxy and hanging out waiting to see you!!! So look out for us. :-) Wish I could run the bridge and the rest of the way with you like you did last year, but maybe one day we'll be running the whole thing together!
Where do you run by a bar?
I'm going to try and get to mile 21 marker at the end of the bridge to cheer you on. I have a soccer game at 9am so I'm not sure if I'll make it there in time. Hopefully the cell phone text message updates will come in handy.
woo! thanks, brian. i'll be girl in the gray baseball cap, white+orange tank top, who is unhinged and hallucinating. probably won't be too hard to spot me.
btw, i should be at the 21 mile marker around 12:30, maybe a bit earlier. keep checking the SMS!
actually, maybe more like noon...it took me 3.5 hours to run 22 miles, and if i start at 8:45..12:15 would be 22 miles, so i might be at 21 miles a bit earlier.
wish I can be there to cheer you on catherine. ;)
oh and by the way, that wapo discussion guy said next year's marathon is first come, first serve... that is going to be crazy!
oh and brian, I will be at that spot probably sometime after 1
No, really, who's going to be at a bar with me when Catherine jogs by? I don't know if she'll ever learn the error in her "running" ways if we all 1) keep giving her money, and 2) don't show her that drinking is a preferable way to spend a weekend morning. We cannot appease!
Kriston, we will be running through Georgetown. That is as close to a bar as we get. Also, you can join the many others that taunt the runners along the course offering free beer.
Catherine, Good luck! -- s
thanks! i'll be sure to post an overly-detailed entry of my experience. if i don't fall over dead.
Slava Catherina!
Good luck on Sunday! I'm sending good thoughts your way - so sorry I can't come cheer you on! Just thought you could use a good Glory to Catherine to speed you on...
