this is a drill

this weekend, after waking up at 4:15am to take tommy to dulles, so he could fly to beautiful san fran california to visit mr. jeff nye and check out grad schools, i went straight down to charlottesville with my dad to check out my brother's navy ROTC drill performance. there's a standard drill team and a trick drill team; he's in the trick one, where they do cool shit and flip their guns around in the air and stuff. pictures are here.

i have never been exactly sure what the point of learning to twirl your guns around in unison is, but it sure looked neat.

having visited berkeley, stanford and SDSU, i will say that it is going to be a tough choice. all of the campuses are beautiful. although i am partial to the bay area, SDSU is a beautiful school and SD definitely has a lot to offer. he's going to drive down there from SF??

i think i probably liked berkeley the most, but then again i lived there for 6 weeks, so i am most familiar with that school.

good luck! catherine, are you looking at schools out there too?

i think he is driving down there later this week...actually now that i think about it, i'm not sure SDSU was the school he was looking at. goddammit. i am a bad girlfriend.

the only school i'm looking at out there is berkeley, but it's kind of a pipe dream :)

Berkeley has a beautiful campus and neighborhood.

Is your brother a student at UV? Those kids look sharp in those uniforms. --s

yup, he's a fourth year at uva, majoring in chemical engineering. next up he'll probably train at a nuclear power facility in charleston, then off somewhere for four years to serve on submarines.
