comment spam

Another wave of comment spam has arrived. For those of you who aren't familiar with the phenomenon, it's like this: Google's PageRank algorithm, as I understand it, ranks a page based on how many other pages link to it, examining the text in and surrounding those links (as well as on the target page) to determine what keywords are applicable. Porn sites want a high PageRank, so they write bots to fill up blog comments with nonsensical text full of porn-related words and links to their sites -- frequently they're added to comments on really old posts, so they may not be noticed by anyone besides Google's pagecrawlers. It's pretty clever.

A handy program called MT-Blacklist lets us keep track of a list of URLs used by comment spammers, and prevent posts that include them. It works pretty well. So the comment spam isn't a big problem. But the some of the titles of the last few we've received caught my eye. They include "monkey strip blowjob" and "outrageous maniac dildo". Which I think is pretty great. But it raises the question -- is there stuff out there even weirder than Crush Videos? (SFW)

That's meant rhetorically, by the way.

YES!
