exceptional circumstances

WAMU is doing a show right now on a local DC music festival that'll be going on this weekend. Fine. But they're featuring an acapella group called Almost Recess. They just played their rendition of "My Girl".

This question has been gnawing at me since I was back at UVA: why do we waste dollars and lives throwing people in jail for nonviolent drug offenses, yet allow acapella performers to walk the streets freely? In all of my recent idealistic, dreamy-eyed liberal pontificating about how no exigency could possibly justify torture, I somehow forgot about human beatboxing. I guess it's time to grow up.

exceptions will be made for Rahzel, of course

from ms. jen kuo:

>A friend of mine works for Sam Adams and is sponsoring a mini-bar crawl this Thursday night at the following bars, all in Cleveland Park (note: free beer). The RAND softball team is going to try and head over to these bars after our game tomorrow--probably around 8:30/9.

Our time frame would put us at Aroma/Nanny O'Briens...

5:45 Cafe Delux, 3228 Wisconsin
7:00 Atomic Billiards, 3427 Connecticut Ave NW
8:15 Aroma, 3417 Conn NW
9:15 Nanny O'Briens, 3319 Conn NW
10:00 Park Bench Pub, 3433 Conn NW
11:00 Bricks, 3421 Conn NW.

i will probably come in around 8/8:30, heading towards aroma. everyone should come! an excellent opportunity to use dodgeball texting. woo.

emails this morning:

>money for your goal. what do you think? I think I could probably come
>with stuff worth several hundred dollars. I'll also pledge $200.00, but
>I'll just give you cash directly. ok?

> dad you don't have to do that! i don't want you to part with your albums. i

>It wouldn't be a problem - I don't listen to them at all anymore and this would

no kidding, my dad has hundreds upon hundreds of vinyl albums sitting in our basement, and he's probably correct that a lot of them could be sold for a significant amount. we'll see. is anyone here into collecting vinyl? perhaps i can offer them on the blog before posting them somewhere else.

anyway. i gotta do something super good for father's day.

we all knew it was coming
