beer and loathing

It's a lazy, dog-danglin' afternoon around here, as Homer Simpson might say. We went to a party at the Cairo last night and had a good time on its colossal roof deck, watching the storm come in. Well, until the storm got close enough that we could see a fire started by the lightning. After that we adjourned to Lucky Bar, the official inclement weather rendezvous point, and I got unproductively intoxicated. Actually, I think there was at least one product: embarassing photos of me. Perhaps Catherine will post those later.

Rough chronology of the DC-iest party I've yet attended:

9:30

Early arrival at party (roof deck closes at midnight). One of co-hosts is a Redskinette. That's a pretty fucking Washingtonian way to kick things off.

10:08

First overheard utterance of "I work for the Kerry campaign." Spoken by a girl though, so probably not being employed as part of seduction attempt -- they know better. Therefore, only half points.

10:20

In line for keg, notice that sitting on top of empty box of Miller Lites is current copy of the Economist. Keep in mind this is on the communal roof deck, not in somebody's apartment.

11:00

Rain starts coming down. I'd like to stay and watch the storm, but Catherine seems to think being on top of one of the tallest buildings in the district in the middle of a thunderstorm is a bad idea for some reason. I guess she isn't as used to getting randomly electrocuted during leisure activites as I am. One feeble attempt at hailing a cab later, we reach the bar.

11:30

At Lucky Bar, I find myself speaking to guy I just met but who was apparently also at the party. I am rattling off a list of congressmen who are clients of the company I work for. Why am I doing this? Occurs to me that I forgot I had a 24 oz. Beck's with dinner. Maybe I should avoid people who spur me to this kind of disgusting behavior. Or drink less? Nah, always trust first instinct.

12:00

Talking with someone about Washingtonienne. At least I'm not trying to make any cicada jokes.

There you have it. Last night took care of this weekend's alcohol and disposable income allowances, so tonight I'll be earning comp time for memorial day and playing videogames with the Zuckermen. Anyone interested in that sort of thing is more than welcome to drop by. And if you can't drop by, maybe you'd like to try out XBConnect with us? You just need broadband and an XBox; otherwise it's free and you can wallop us but good.

Comments

Let's not forget that this random guy you talked to mistook me for the Washingtonienne...and then proceeded to call me a Pentagon whore. Bastard!
