I know you're from Microsoft HQ, which makes you a Seattle resident. However, complaining about the local Starbucks' staff's inability to fulfill a simple order* or the poor selection of microbrews at area restaurants is not the way to relate to us east coast troglodytes.

things i am currently freaking out about:

  • cicadas. natch. do i even have to say why? the drone alone could drive a man insane. i actually plan on doing a cicada photo essay at some point to show those of you not living here what we're really going through. you're all like, oh whatever, they're just bugs, you pansy-ass wuss. THEY ARE NOT JUST BUGS. they kill children.

  • the return of the snakehead fish. i've never actually seen a snakehead fish, but the idea of any fish with a gummy white tongue and pointy teeth that can walk on land for three days has the makings of a very terrible horror movie. a la tremors style, i think? plus, it looks like this:

jesus h. christ. we're all doomed.

  • the stream of summertime d.c tourists that invariably ruin my metro commute to and from work (as if wmata wasn't doing a good enough job of that already). yes, i know that the washington post should be concentrating their journalistic efforts on more serious issues, but i'm *glad* they published this article on the annoyance of tourists who stand on the left of metro escalators.

  • finding a new job. i like my job alright, and i've only been here eight months, but the other day, my boss got snippy with me for *not promptly refilling the printer paper*. seriously. my talents can be put to better use. but even though the post recently had an article about an apparent regionalized job market boom due to all the government spending, i cannot find a single thing that looks good. true, i've only been searching the web sites for three days now, but it's already discouraging. so, will someone please hire me? i'm looking for something in journalism or publication managing. i'm good, i promise. i can write (despite the frequent grammatical and spelling errors on this blog). i was echols at uva and graduated with honors. i speak italian, for christ sakes, and for all the time i spent on that, it's got to count for something, right? so someone just find me a high-paying job that flies me to italy once in a while so i can write about truffles or something, already. jeez.
  • waiting for something to happen

turns out that listening to "the bends" can turn in a shitty morning into a somewhat-uplifting one. i love when you haven't listened to an album in months and months, and when you finally revisit it, it's better than you ever remembered. i feel like i'm 15 and falling in love with radiohead all over again.

    in other radiohead obsession news:

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood will become the BBC's new composer in residence and will write a new work for one of its radio stations.

The assignment, expected to last three years, will allow Greenwood to use the BBC's musical resources, including the BBC Concert Orchestra.

better than being unemployed without one, i guess

NYC sure does have a lot of unemployed artists with ipods. Photo via Gizmodo. Click on the image for a close-up alternate view.
