Just a quick thanks to everyone for coming to our barbeque on Saturday. Also, my apologies -- at 2AM I remembered I had to wake up at 6 to go see my sister graduate from UVA. Not only did I suddenly abandon all host responsibilities, but I left a game of Mario Party dangerously unfinished. Poor form. Hopefully next time there won't be any thunderstorms or impending Precious Family Moments to derail the fun.
Speaking of flimsy excuses to stand around outside and drink, would anyone like to go to a Potomac Cannons game? No home games this week, I'm afraid, but next week they'll be playing the (presumably) hated Winston-Salem Warthogs.
Thrown-together music item roundup... Begin! The Darkness's next album will be produced by former AC/DC producer and current Shania Twain husband Mutt Lange. The Unicorns are still going to be playing the Black Cat on June 6, and for ten bucks on a Sunday night you've got no excuse not to go. Inspired by Ashley Olsen, I picked up the new Modest Mouse in Charlottesville, and it's good. Inspired by feelings of hipster inadequacy for not owning 69 Love Songs, I also bought the new Magnetic Fields, and it isn't. At least on the first listen.
Finally, I continue to be mystified as to why people think This Modern World is a good comic. Occasionally amusing? Ok, maybe. Issues like today's are just simpleminded cheerleading, though. The contents barely even qualify as jokes. On the other hand, if you want to waste a lot of time at work, check out the excellent Scary Go Round. Best to begin at the beginning. Or, if you prefer to be thorough and/or confused, before the beginning.

Give i a chance. It's not as superb as 69 Love Songs, but it definitely has some great tracks, and I think it's a cd that takes a few listens to warm up to. "I Thought You were My Boyfriend" and "I Don't Love You Anymore" are particularly excellent. By the way, has anyone seen a picture of Stephen Merritt? He is uglier than Dave Eggers.
