it goes without saying

Ok, so the last thing you need is another white kid from the suburbs telling you how great Dave Chappelle is. But I can't help it. And he's from Arlington! So clearly I can offer, uh, insight or something.

At any rate, tonight's episode took things to a new plateau. "Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?" is the new "I'm Rick James, bitch!"

revelations!

Two important thoughts to share:

  1. On the drive to work today, my coworker Sean and I happened across a radiostation that was stuck playing the same two bars of the bridge from the Ghostbusters theme over and over again. You know, the part with the wah-wahed synths right before the key change. We clocked this for ten minutes, when an appropriately weary-sounding dj finally came on, identified the station as college radio and explained that they would keep playing the loop until they met their call-in donation goal. Then they went back to playing it, with occasional bursts of found noise mixed in. It's now 6:54pm, we're back in the car, and Ray Parker Jr. Is still going strong. I think this is genius.

  2. I used to think Catherine's IM name, pablohoney, was about the best screen name a girl could have. But now I've suddenly realized that that distinction belongs to ThundercatsHo, whoever she is

UPDATE: the dj came back, and says they're giving away gamecubes, GBAs, a turntable and modest mouse on vinyl as prizes. If I were cool enough to listen to modest mouse I would totally be in love with the lady dj right now. Wait, she just said she enjoys playing mariokart: doubledash. Sorry Catherine, that did it.

UPDATE 2: now they're looping the opening riff and plucked notes from "jeremy". Again I say: malevolent genius.

you better believe it: charlottesville, va is ranked the #1 place to live in the US. according to some random book.

i have to agree. out of all the places i've ever lived (not that the list is long: d.c., vienna va, charlottesville, milan italy, arlington), cville was totally #1 for quality of life. well, not such a hard list to rank first out of, but the amount of culture, great restaurants, history, diversity, natural beauty and beer-drinking in charlottesville is hard to beat.

i miss it sometimes. arlington/d.c. have totally grown on me, but if someone offered me a lucrative job in charlottesville (not likely to happen based on the number of graduates who look to find a job there immediately post-grad), i would move down there in a second.

wahoowa.

okay, time for me to stop bitching about my problems with digital cameras and make this site more what i'd really like it to be about: pointless entertainment and celebrity crap!

so, some links:

sign me up: bravo *finally* launching a 'queer eye for the straight girl' series. only three men (i assume it's gay men, i guess it could be lesbians, but i think we can all agree that would be a horrible idea) will be on the team, so no fab five.

link expired: beck has married giovanni ribsi's pregnant sister (i assume pregnant by beck). who is a scientologist. garh. LEAVE BECK ALONE! i just had lunch at sette osteria (of matt yglesias bruschetta fame), and i just noticed that the d.c. scientologist center is right across the street from it! creepy.

yeardley smith breaks free from voice of lisa simpson, does a one-woman show. apparently she is dissatisifed with her career, having earned millions of dollars for nothing more than doing the talking of a cartoon character. yeah. shut up.

rupert murdoch's company is now based in the u.s. run. run now.

quentin tarantino plans two more sequels to the current two kill bills (bottom item on the page). is it just me, or did uma thurman used to be *so much* prettier than she is now? i'll let you be the judge.

kevin spacey is encouraging justin timberlake to act on london's west end. goddammit. jt already has a film role coming up alongside spacey in 'edison', where timberlake plays a hard-hitting journalist. no doubt he will be convincing.

ashton kucher somehow, by god, manages to pull off a pink suit.

jlo and michael vartan (of alias) are co-starring together in 'monster-in-law', in which jane fonda plays the title role.

and i'm all celebrity-ed out. believe it or not.

yay!

hoorah hooray, i bought a camera today!

i actually didn't go with any of the digital cameras i listed previously; tommy alerted me this morning to a deal via bensbargains.net where you could buy the canon s410 powershot or whatever it's called for only $309, including shipping. i figured, what the hell, to someone like me, most digital cameras are more or less the same, and this one has 4.0 megapixels, and something to do with CCDs (which justin said was good) and lots of other nifty confusing features, and it's SO CUTE AND TINY. which is the most important part of a camera to a girl. take a look:

that's the 410 on the right, obviously, next to the s500. i have no idea what the difference between the two may be. i am pretty much as uninformed and retarded about digital cameras as one could imagine, but now i have a new one!

now. can someone tell me what kind of memory card i should buy?

i hate to sound so stupid, but when it comes to digital cameras, i am basically the equivalent of a damsel in distress in a tower waving around some sort of hanky.
