hiphopmusic.com blogs the oscars in...haiku! (via whatevs.org) to wit:

"Hey Naomi Watts!
Watt's up??" Billy Bush just asked.
I'm buying a gun.

Damn you, Liv Tyler.
Your Lisa Loeb impression
has stolen my heart.

from what i've read, it seems male bloggers the world over were smitten by liv tyler's titillating eyewear. i thought it was kind of annoying, though i might have found it endearing if she didn't keep taking the damn things off then putting them back on every five seconds to read from the teleprompter in her best "oscars" voice. but she is beautiful. i will give the wench that.

enough oscars!

i took the book and country quizzes over at bluepyramid.org and it turns out that i am, respectively, one hundred years of solitude (Lonely and struggling, you've been around for a very long time. Conflict has filled most of your life and torn apart nearly everyone you know. Yet there is something majestic and even epic about your presence in the world. You love life all the more for having seen its decimation. After all, it takes a village.) and iceland (Most people think you're a cold and forbidding person, but you're actually naturally warm and inviting. People just get scared off by what other people have led them to believe about you. You keep to yourself for the most part, and are pretty good at fending for yourself, especially if water's involved. More people should visit you and find out the truth.).

if it involves avoiding work, i'm doing it.

i'm still swimming in work over at one dupont circle, so i can't ramble about the oscars for as long or as bitchily as i'd like to. we hosted a small oscars party at our house last night, to go along with the oscar pull 2004 (tm). people came to our arlingtonian house from as far as d.c. (susan and kriston) and charlottesville (allie and scott) to drink, gamble, and bitch about the dresses.

as far as couture: i was a little bit disappointed in what the starlets were wearing this year. i didn't see any dresses that blew my mind BAHH IMAGES REMOVED BECAUSED OF ALL THE ANNOYING GOOGLE SEARCH IMAGES REFERRALS 12/24/05

and that is my hard-hitting fashion analysis.

as for the real awards: i guess i would have won the oscar pull if i had guess that LOTR would win EVERY SINGLE FREAKING AWARD it was nominated for. eleven in all, as it turned out. but i did not guess in that manner, and also gambled on supporting actress; i didn't pick renee, but instead the iranian woman from the house of sand and fog. and i paid for it. oh well. lots of booze was drunk, theater candy was eaten, and snarkiness abounded. becca ended up winning, i came in second, and kriston made a near-win comeback despite a shaky start. overall, bravissima evening. go oscars.

boys of summer

every year, there's that one day, usually sometime in early march, where i wake up, look out the window, step outside, and i know: it's time to bring out the boyfriends.

not my real boyfriends, that is (however unfortunately). these are the boyfriends that have waited for me since november, where i carelessly threw them in the backseat of my car or under my bed when the cold weather started coming through the d.c. region and the leaves on the trees were long gone. these are the boys i abandoned for something less happy and boisterous, for sounds less upbeat, for someone who could give me slow, warm comfort as i walked to work in my down jacket or drove my car in the snow.

but sunday, i stepped outside, and i knew: it was time to dust off the old boyfriends, take them in my car with me, roll down the windows, and go.

and i listened to them all day: damon alburn, carl newman (and my girlfriend neko case), rhett miller, jarvis cocker, travis morrison, courtney taylor, stephen malkmus, tom petty, jeff tweedy (being there-ish era), the sloan boys, and many more.

and now i must go get a bagel and coffee because i hungover and obviously loopy.
