i read this article in the c-ville weekly a few days ago, and now naomi brought to my attention that the site in the article is run by a guy we played inner tube water polo with. it's devoted to informing people further about the shameful situation concerning domestic benefits at uva.

i don't actually give money to uva anyway because i'm too poor, but now i can pretend i'm doing it to be socially conscious.

hey y'all

from jackie comes this quiz about speech: Yankee or Dixie?

i got "73% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!"

which i find a little bit strange, since i lived in d.c. the first ten years of my life, then moved to the northern virginia suburbs, then attended school for four years in charlottesville, which is southern, but not, you know, SOUTHERN.

also, according to the test: "Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect." and i watch a hell of a lot of tv.

i don't know, maybe cville did have a stronger influence than i thought; all those gaggles of southern sorority girl belles i passed by on a daily basis might have had something to do with it. and i did start saying y'all down there, and continue it to this day. i consider it a charming affectation. yeah.

all my coworkers are alcoholics

i may not love my work, but i do love my coworkers:

In anticipation of Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras, come join the AGB Krewe for refreshments in the 5th floor conference room at 4:00pm today to kick off the weekend and Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

we have parties like, every other week. when the hurricane was brewing, we had a party, themed "the end is near, so let's have a beer!"

the conference room is basically codespeak for "alcohol-stocked party chamber." i once mistakenly referred to it as the "liquor room" instead of the "conference room" when talking to a superior. awesome.
