eeeeeeelectability
so, yay, kerry, win lots, many delegates, big surprise.
eesh. i don't know. i'm changing my mind here, but i just cannot get behind kerry anymore. practically speaking, i know i should - i agree with lots of his voting record and am impressed by his obvious military heroism, intelligence and record on women's rights and the environment.
but every time i see him on tv - man. he sucks. people say being long-winded his is problem. i say it's that he licks his lips too much. he is like, constantly licking his lips. i guess it's maybe a nervous habit, but he needs to stop it tout de suite, because it makes him look like a big pervert.
anyway, it's one of those cases of heart vs. mind. i think i've decided well enough to not vote for kerry in the va primary on feb. 10. it's going to be either edwards or dean. dean i would vote for solely for having changed the face of the democratic party. although he's probably going to lose badly, i don't think he or any of his supporters should feel embarrassed, or bitter, or sad. i mean, they probably *will* feel that way. obviously. but he and his campaign have really reenergized things for the dems, for which every single current candidate and every single democratic voter should be incredibly thankful. this passage from a salon.com article says it:
But not all Dean supporters share this despair. Some believe that they've already succeeded in creating political change, and even the primaries have not disappointed them. "I'm not disillusioned at all," says Omar Jabara, a 37-old volunteer from Denver. A former press secretary for former Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Jabara moved into the private sector a few years ago and has been only tangentially involved in politics since. Howard Dean got him active again."Dean's impact on the Democratic Party has been massive," he says. "The number of new people he's brought in, how he's employed these really new techniques. Some people will drop out, but I think for the vast majority, politics is a very addictive endeavor. Once you get involved in politics, it's very difficult to extract yourself. It's like the genie's out of the bottle." Jabara says he will vote for whomever the Democratic nominee is.
i mean, i would go so far as to say that if the democratic candidate wins in november, dean should receive a decent amont of the credit.
anyway, this whole electability thing with kerry - wha? i don't know a single democrat who is really excited about him, yet they go on ad nauseum citing him as electable. i think edwards is far more electable than kerry - more personable, more articulate, more compassionate, and damn, that southern twang. i'm not forgetting that in like, a million years, there have been no non-southern democratic candidates who eventually won the presidency. but in any case, a kerry-edwards ticket wouldn't be a bad thing.
politics. exciting!
i also read on the tnr &tc blog that kerry, so convinced he will win the nomination, is considering making an overseas trip in the summer to like, i don't know, eat french cheese? or something? err. john. bad idea. depends on where he's going, but i would really stay here at home, because i feel like a trip abroad would be viewed as completely presumptuous, not to mention arrogant and like he's already all up in the president's business.
