icky
gross. bush is gross. i can't believe the reckless abandon of his spending. GROSS! dude. the dems need to start harping on this.
from wp editorial:
"THE CONGRESSIONAL Budget Office released its new deficit projections yesterday, and the bad news is that the deficit is forecast to total nearly $2.4 trillion over the next decade, almost $1 trillion more than the estimate just five months ago. The worse news is that the actual prognosis is far grimmer. Because the budget office is required by law to ignore some likely costs, the more realistic scenario is that the federal government will spend about $5 trillion more over the next 10 years than it takes in.
In the face of all this, President Bush tells Americans that the deficit shouldn't concern them because he'll cut it in half in the next five years. This assurance is both hollow (the administration's glide path to that goal omits $200 billion in likely costs) and inadequate (even if the administration were to accomplish that feat, deficits would soon begin to mushroom as growing numbers of baby boomers hit retirement age.)..."
GROSS! it does go on to mention though that even if a dem were elected, and went on to fulfill all of his campaign promises (ie health care, education plans, etc) that the deficit would still be pretty horrible. oh well. we're screwed no matter what.
anyway, those of you waiting with bated breath for the political oracle's predictions on the nh primary...well, you've got some blurry stuff to interpret. i know i did dream about a man that looked like sen. ted kennedy, but i'm not positive it actually was him, and as far as i remember, no actual candidates were in my dream. so i guess you could take the ted kennedy look-alike as a indication that kerry will win, because they're closely aligned. but blah. i'm afraid i've failed my supporters. sorry, guys. that was lame.
but you should consider yourself lucky i even made it to work to post today. it is a big nasty mess out there. tommy's officially the best boyfriend ever, because he drove me to the metro this morning after spending like 25 minutes scraping ice off his windows. then i got packed into the metro like one of so many sardines, and endured a twice as long ride as usual to get to farragut west, upon which i exited and walked for 15 minutes in icy sludge and freezing rain to my near-empty office. wow! winter is great! actually, the snow day i took yesterday was pretty nice. i hung out at tommy's for most of the day, where we had a fire going and i just surfed the internet, listened to music and ate soup. but i think i'm officially over the line of finding snow storms a fun escape; i'm into the horrible adult world of finding them nothing but a hassle.
in other news, i would like to give a shout out, or whatever a less lame term might be, to wonkette.com. d.c. gossip - it's fun.

Catherine- Soupy's friend Lawton here. On the way to work this morning I remembered reading on your blog a month or so ago that you were leaning towards voting for Kerry. And I'm assuming from your post here that you still are???
I for one would say to please reconsider . . . this whole issue of electability has come up and now people are saying that Kerry is the only Dem that has a chance of beating Bush. That's crap. That's media propaganda and a lot of people who call themselves Democrats seem to be buying into . . . just look at Kerry's poll numbers since his surprising Iowa victory. Like you said weeks ago, the media does not like Howard Dean and Howard Dean does not like the media and rightfully so considering the excessive number of times they've played that 7-second sound bite from his Iowa concession speech.
Howard Dean is the true Democrats Democrat who wasn't afraid to say NO to the US-led invasion of Iraq when 80% of this country backed it. He's not afraid to take an unpopular stand when the stakes are high. I for one did not support the US invasion from the get go. However, Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman and most of the other Dems voted side-by-side with the Republicans to give Bush the authority to do so.
People say that their aren't many differences in the Democrats . . .they all want universal health care, they all want to dismantle the Bush tax cuts (the ones that have hurt the middle class and helped the upper class) at least to some degree, and they all want to scrap Bush's supposed Energy policies that would allow drilling for oil (about 6-months worth total) in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, etc. However, Dean, Kucinich and Clark (if you don't count his original statements supporting the invasion of Iraq) have all opposed Gulf War II from the beginning. And that is your difference.
I think it's time for Democrats to put their vote where their mouth is! I say this to you and to any other Democrats who will be voting in Primaries this year, if you did not support the US War in Iraq, don't support a candidate that did. George Bush did and we'd never vote for him, so why vote for someone who supported him. If I wanted to do that I'd vote for Bush himself. THe Democrats don't need a Bush-Lite in office . . . like a Kerry, Edwards or Lieberman. We need someone whose got our best interests as Democrats at heart. Someone who is electable and can beat Bush and who will hold his feet to the fire. That man is Howard Dean.

Well, for once I too had a dream about the primaries. However I think mine was only marginally more accurate than Catherine's -- I dreamt that Gephardt got back in the race and all the voters were so sick of everyone else that he won. Polls close in a few hours; it's not looking good for my prophecy. C'mon Dick, there's still time!
And Lawton, I'm with you. I think Dean's the only guy who can go on stage with Bush and make him look less presidential, and more like a special needs kid. Which is what I suspect it'll take to win in November.
